My name is Kayla and I am thrilled to meet you and your dog! In 2022, I received an AS degree in canine studies from Bergin University in California. There I learned from Karen Pryor graduates, certified behaviorists, and veterinarians with other students from all over the country. At this college I also learned service dog training from Bonnie Bergin, the person who pioneered the service dog. Everything I’ve learned has been a visual or kinesthetic approach and during this I found a passion for positive reinforcement and teaching (to dogs AND humans!). I am CPDT certified, and I am currently taking classes through Karen Pryor's professional dog training courses to continue my education. I have a firm belief in science-based training and following LIMA standards. I have worked at other daycare/boarding facilities under trainers and groomers, and I have taught scent work, agility, and trick training to dogs. My most recent internship was working for researchers from the University of Arizona to do cognition testing games for puppies and adult dogs.
Here’s a good synopsis of how I like to train: instead of looking for a behavior to “punish”, I am always looking for a behavior to reinforce/reward!
